K2 International also build machines with RFID and security labelling capabilities.
What is RFID?
Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, is a wireless technology that can identify and count a wide range of objects. For all intents and purposes RFID is an electronic barcode, however, unlike a traditional barcode it works without contact and does not require line of sight. It enables automated, handsfree communication between objects and computers.
RFID uses smart label technology, or put simply, it uses tags which can be attached to, or embedded within, a wide range of objects. In general these tags are passive, meaning they do not require any electrical power to operate, and information stored is transferred between tags and computer systems using electronic readers.

Information stored on these tags can be as simple as a unique unalterable identification code, or more sophisticated such as a small database that can be dynamically updated throughout a product’s lifecycle.
The benefits of RFID over traditional identification technologies include no requirement for line of sight, re-writeable memory, secure transactions, rugged technology and fast data capture. RFID can uniquely identify and count hundreds of individually tagged objects in less than a second and over ranges that can vary from near contact, to many metres away.
